Our fraternal order founded on these distinguishing principles:

Welcome to

the order of the Knights Pythias

The Knights of Pythias is a historic fraternal order founded in 1864, in the aftermath of the Civil War, built on a simple yet powerful conviction: that friendship, loyalty, and benevolence can heal divisions and strengthen communities.

Fredericksburg Lodge 22 carries this legacy forward in the heart of Virginia. In this region, the early growth of Pythianism took root shortly after the Order’s founding in Washington, D.C. Since the 1870s, our lodge has served as a gathering place for men dedicated to character, fellowship, and civic responsibility.

Our members support charitable efforts, honor long-standing traditions, participate in community service, and foster the kind of genuine brotherhood that has defined the Order for over 150 years. Whether through acts of kindness, mentorship, outreach, or shared fraternal tradition, our mission remains unchanged: to help good men become better men and stronger citizens.

We welcome those who value integrity, service, and camaraderie to learn more about our history and to discover what it means to be part of the Knights of Pythias today.

Friendship forms the foundation of Pythian teaching.

It reflects the belief that genuine brotherhood has the power to bridge divisions, strengthen character, and uplift communities. Within the lodge, members build lasting bonds grounded in trust, respect, and shared purpose.

Charity is central to the Knights of Pythias mission.

For over 150 years, our members have supported families, communities, and charitable causes through service, outreach, and quiet acts of compassion. We give because it strengthens the bonds of our order and enriches the lives of others.

Benevolence reflects the heart of Pythian tradition.

Members are encouraged to lead with kindness, uphold moral integrity, and promote goodwill in all aspects of life. Benevolence is more than giving; it is living with purpose, honor, and responsibility to one another.
