Knights of Pythias, Fredericksburg Lodge 22

Knights of Pythias Lodge 22 is committed to ensuring that our website and digital resources are accessible to all visitors, including people with disabilities. We strive to make our online content clear, usable, and welcoming to as many people as possible, in keeping with the principles of Friendship, Charity, and Benevolence.

Our goal is to provide a digital experience that reflects the values of our Order: respect, inclusivity, and service—so every visitor can access information about our lodge, events, history, and membership opportunities.

Our Accessibility Goals

We aim to follow Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 AA, an internationally recognized standard that defines how to make web content more accessible for:

  • People who use screen readers
  • People with low vision
  • People who rely on keyboard navigation
  • People with cognitive or learning disabilities
  • People with limited mobility or assistive technologies
  • People who benefit from clear structure and readable layouts

While we are continually improving, we intend to make Lodge 22’s website as inclusive and user-friendly as possible.

What We Are Doing

To support accessibility, our website:

1. Uses clear and consistent headings and layouts

This helps assistive technologies and improves navigation for all users.

2. Ensures strong color contrast

We use high-contrast combinations for readability, especially across our lodge colors (navy, gold, red).

3. Provides descriptive alt-text for images where appropriate

Images that convey meaningful information include descriptive text for screen-reader users.

4. Supports keyboard-only navigation

Users can navigate menus, forms, and most interactive elements without using a mouse.

5. Uses accessible forms

Labels, fields, and error messages are structured so that screen readers can interpret them correctly.

6. Maintains readable text sizes and scalable type

Browser zoom and device resizing should not break the site layout.

7. Avoids flashing or seizure-triggering content

No rapid flashing elements are used.

Areas We Are Improving

While we work to maintain compliance, some parts of the website may still require refinement. Ongoing improvements include:

  • Reviewing newly uploaded images for descriptive alt-text
  • Ensuring embedded videos have captions or summaries
  • Monitoring third-party integrations (forms, maps, embeds, social media widgets) for accessibility
  • Continuing to update page structures for improved screen-reader compatibility

We welcome feedback to help us enhance the experience for all visitors.
